1 PM – 5 PM Events and Speakers

*1 PM – Elizabeth Simpson      Art FROM the Streets: Photo Scavenger Hunt
Celebrate the people, places, and things in our local community (landscape, architecture, community members, etc.) by taking photos of them!

Bring your camera or cell phone and take a walking/biking photo scavenger hunt. Various prizes will be given!

With permission from the artists, the pieces created in this workshop will be included in the “Urbana: Art from the Streets” project, which will be on display via public television, online, and a set of postcards to be printed later this year.

* 2 PM – Joe Coyle      Young people, the prison industrial complex, and writing
The voices of young people are often neglected in discussions about the justice system and other social issues.This talk showcases some creative work by detained young people that critically addresses these topics and imagines alternatives. The work that will be discussed was produced in a writing program based out of the Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center.

* 3 PM – Kevin Hamilton    Zining, History, and Public Art
A presentation on the production of a small one-shot zine on local history as a public artwork. http://www.complexfields.org

* 4 PM – Beth Simpson – Art FOR the Streets: Stencil Workshop
Celebrate U-C street art! In this workshop, you’re invited to create pieces that signify the people, places, and things in our local community (landscape, architecture, community members, etc.)

Design stencils, silkscreen prints, photocopies, blockprints, graffiti and 
we will create our own mural! Supplies for making/printing stencils will be provided. Bring your own materials to make other media.

8 PM – 10 PM – Punk Show Time!!!   Featuring Laughboy, Chain’s Gang, and UNNERVE!  (more info. about the show here!)

 

The Books2Prisoners Book Sale will be taking place in the room adjacent to tablers.  The book sale will be occurring from 8 AM to 5 PM on April 13th.
